As it celebrates its 20th anniversary in business, Anchorage-based Spinell Homes has made the Top 400 list of the biggest home builders in the U.S. for the 12th year in a row. Professional Builder annually publishes its list of America's 400 largest home builders. According to the latest list released this month, Spinell Homes ranked #377 on the list with 137 closings and sales revenues of more than $42 million in 2006.
"As far as we know, our company is the only Alaskan firm to ever make the Top 400 list," said Chuck Spinelli, president and CEO of Spinell Homes.
Professional Builder develops the list by looking at the total number of housing units closed in a year, then sorts them in order by housing revenue. A year ago, Spinell Homes was listed #336 in the rankings, and it has been on the top 400 list every year since 1995. This is the 40th year the business publication for the nation's homebuilders has produced the Annual Report of America's Housing Giants. Over the last 20 years, Spinelli estimates his company has built more than 2,500 single-family homes in southcentral Alaska, as well as dozens of commercial buildings and remodeling projects. In addition to opening a separate custom-home building division called Millennium Homes in 2001, Spinelli is part owner of South Anchorage GarageTown USA, a condominium storage community that provides aesthetically pleasing, permanent storage solutions for business, personal and recreational storage needs. Spinelli also owns Settler's Bay Lodge and Settler's Bay Storage. In total, the company and its divisions employ approximately 90 Alaskans.
Spinell Homes is building dozens of homes in Anchorage and the Matanuska-Susitna Valley this summer. The company also will soon break ground on a 24-unit, high-end condominium project called "Vaughn 100" at 6th & M Streets in downtown Anchorage.
In addition to making the Top 400 list, Spinell Homes is regularly included in the Alaska Business Monthly "Top 49er" list of Alaska-owned, Alaska-based business organizations. The company also has been recognized with an award for excellence in customer service from the Better Business Bureau of Alaska.
Professional Builder is a 70-year-old business magazine published by Reed Business Information. It has earned a reputation as an invaluable resource for home builders looking for business information, product news and trend data.
Spinell Homes has been a major residential contractor in Alaska since 1987, leading the way with a 10-year structural warranty and customer care vans. The company is known for its community giving program, supporting the Anchorage Home Builders Care endowment, United Way and an array of non-profit organizations and activity groups.
